Maria Luz Carballo, Argentine blues singer and guitarist moved to Chicago, the Mecca of blues worldwide, in 1997 at the age of 20. Her unique and self-taught style of playing electric Chicago blues with a Latin touch and a dash of soul has established her as the one and only “Maria Blues”.

Raíces Latin Jazz

Raíces Latin Jazz was founded by percussionist Rubén Alvarez to honor and play the music of Latin jazz originators like Cal Tjader and Mongo Santamaria. Now led by vibraphonist Joe Sonnefeldt, the band continues in that tradition while updating it with new, original compositions.
Edward Carpio Quintet

Uptempo salsa, Latin jazz, and romantic boleros take over when singer Edward Carpio and a 5-piece version of his acclaimed N’Samble Latino bring their magic to Sabor a Café on a Saturday night!

Copacabana Trio

Copacabana Trio brings sensibility and passion to performance because of the consummate musicianship of its members. Neusa Sauer (vocals), Luciano Antonio (guitar and vocals), and Geraldo de Oliveira (percussion) comprise the group; they bring a wealth of experience playing a range of compositions from their native country of Brazil. The evening’s program will focus on works by the famous duo of Antônio Carlos Jobim and Vinicius de Moraes, and feature bossa novas, old sambas, samba canção, and many classics from the 50s, 60s, and 70s. Copacabana trio will transport you to Copacabana Beach!

El Bandolero

Sabor a Café presents a solo show by guitarist Johnny Al Bazi, who leads the Rumba Flamenca band El Bandolero.
Johnny Al Bazi is the father of all the Bandoleros in Chicago. Al Bazi has been doing music all his life. He states “Music is my life. There is no word to describe it, its passion and love. That’s what the music is all about.”
Johnny started to play guitar in the 1980s while living in Greece and in his career he has had the honor of sharing the stage with the Gipsy Kings.

Abel Gallardo

His tour Punto y Salvo performed in counties like Costa Rica, Argentina, Chile, Spain, Morocco and Perú in 2022-2023
Abel Gallardo, Cantautor Guatemalteco, regresa a Sabor a Café este 31 de Marzo, esta vez a presentarse con un ensamble de músicos extraordinarios y lo que ha sido a lo largo del 2022 y parte del 2023 su gira Punto y Salvo.
