Welcome back a Sabor a Café favorite, Claudia La Gitana, performing a tribute to Helenita Vargas, “La Ronca de Oro”, the great Colombian singer from the 1970s and 80s.
Helenita Vargas touched hearts throughout Latin America with her many great hits, including Señor, Propiedad Privada, Maria de los Guardias and Que Nadie Sepa Mi Sufrir.
Claudia La Gitana was born in Palmira, Valle del Cauca, Colombia. A singer of multiple cultures and styles, she brightens every stage with her colorful Gypsy style and vibrant personality. The palmireña is an international artist who has performed with Swing and Sugar, Mangrove, La Nueva Sonora Matancera and others.
Her teachers and mentors include the great Alfredito Linares, Felix Suarez 'Shakaito' and Nino Caicedo. She is the winner of the 2012 Colombian National Bolero Competition 'Alberto Villa Velez'.

Argentina born Damian Rivero belongs to a large family of musicians, including his Grandfather Edmundo Rivero, one of the most popular tango singers of all time. With his first band C-Men, he played at the most popular underground venues and festivals in Argentina. His music blends rock with the soul of tango.
Signed by Warner Music, his first production was released in the market titled "Damian Rivero" produced by Ish Ledesma and Adrian Posse. His first single "Helena" made it into the top 10 in Argentina. He followed this release with tours in Mexico and Argentina.
He traveled to the USA where he continued to play at venues in Miami, Los Angeles, Arizona, Boston, Washington DC and Chicago.
His second album, "Con El Diablo En El Hombro" was released in 2007.

Brazilian Choro is a cousin of "samba." It is communal by nature and appeals to young and old. Classical and jazz players find common ground working in this style that allows for freedom of expression through improvisation, technical dexterity and rhythmic feel.
The Chicago Choro Club will host a Jam session (Roda de Choro) for interested musicians. The main group is formed by musicians/teachers Heitor Garcia (pandeiro), John Beard (7 string guitar), Julie Koidin (flute) and Marcel Bonfim (bass) with many special guests.
We hope to make your evening a delight with the most traditional Brazilian music, the Choro.

Sabor a Café is proud to present the Chicago debut of Sempiterno featuring Solange Prat and Gregorio Uribe.
Singer-songwriters Prat (Argentina) and Uribe (Colombia) came individually to New York City to develop and nurture their musical careers. Working in a city that is a mecca of art, culture and music, both artists have successfully been able to establish themselves in the Latin music scene with their own unique projects. Inevitably, through their music and performances, their paths crossed and they were able to come together to create.
They have teamed up to form the singer-songwriter duo Sempiterno, where they not only perform together, but also co-write original songs that tell stories shared and experienced by both
Solange Prat, originally from Buenos Aires, Argentina, has been living in New York City for the past eight years. Trained as a vocalist in jazz, blues, soul, Latin and contemporary music, she has established herself as one of the main Latin voices in the underground scene, as the front woman of the 11-piece Williamsburg Salsa Orchestra, with whom she just released their second album, DIALECTICA.
As a songwriter, she just released her single “Doce Años”, featuring the Latin Grammy winners (2017) of Flor de Toloache, together with other renownd musicians from the NY scene. She also has experience in television, theater and working with international artists, such as Enrique Pinti, Joan Baez, Eva Ayllon and Bahiano among others.
Colombian singer-songwriter and accordionist Gregorio Uribe was currently resides in New York. He graduated from Berklee School of Music and went on to blend cumbia with big band. His album "Cumbia Universal” featuring 8-time GRAMMY-winner Rubén Blades hit the Billboard charts and received critical acclaim with sold-out shows at Lincoln Center.
He performed at Madison Square Garden next to GRAMMY-winner Carlos Vives and was named "100 most successful Colombians abroad”.

“The History of the Tango” decidedly forgoes the flourish of dance in favor of a curation of tango’s most cherished songs including arias from Piazzolla’s enigmatic tango operetta Maria de Buenos Aires. This intimate recital celebrates the music and lyrics of Carlos Gardel, Filibierto, Hector Stamponi, Horacio Basterra, Jose Dames, Horacio Ferrer and more. The program will be augmented with a few masterpieces from tango’s rich instrumental canon.

Founded in 2001, Conjunto is violinist James Sanders’ long running project to unite his classical training and Dominican heritage with the freedom of jazz improvisation, all grounded in Afro-Cuban rhythms: rumba, son, danzón and more.
In Conjunto, jazz freedom, intricate instrumental virtuosity and propulsive dance rhythms find equal footing in a cohesive whole, making music for mind, body, and soul. They have performed at the Chicago Jazz Festival, Andy’s Jazz Club, the Jazz Showcase, the Chicago Latin Jazz Festival, the Velvet Lounge, the Evanston Ethnic Arts Festival, Katerina’s, Chicago SummerDance and many more. In 2010, Conjunto headlined at Millennium Park’s Jay Pritzker Pavilion for the ‘Made in Chicago: World Class Jazz’ series before an audience of nearly 10,000 people.
